Hi all,

I'm fairly new to the Hackintosh community- studying and saving for a few years, I just now completed my first build with very little problems.

I chose to do a G5 case mod, utilizing my father, a machinist, to help with some of the cutting, etc.

First, my specs:

• i7-3770k- http://www.amazon.com/Intel-i7-3770K-Quad-Core-Processor-Cache/dp/B007SZ0EOW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1356578463&sr=8-1&keywords=3770k

• Corsair Vengeance 16gb RAM- http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006EWUO22/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_1?ie=UTF8&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER
• Corsair 850w PS - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003PJ6QW4/ref=oh_details_o08_s00_i00
• Thermaltake 80mm fans - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003819S74/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i00
->Ordered, but not installed yet.

-->I purchased this rack over a year ago. Wanting the open trays to face forward, I removed the fan from the rear and attached it to the left. I still need another 24pin ATX cable to attach this to the PS.

To install, I used an old Logitech Mouse (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001DJ64C0/ref=oh_details_o05_s00_i00) and an old PC keyboard I had lying around.

Because I am an extreme novice to computer building, let alone to a hackintosh, I used multiple online resources/posts from TonyMac, as well as a post from lifehacker.

->Because I'm using the GTX-670 and not HD4000, I also selected Customization -> Boot Options -> GraphicsEnabler=No.

Upon doing all of this, I had very little problems.

• Audio works
• Wifi doesn't work. (Using the GC-WB-300D card that came with ga-z77x-up5-th.) Has anyone found a solution to this? Read some forums, doesn't look like it. My solution was to order this because I heard it works OOB. Waiting for it to arrive: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007GMPZ0A/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00
• Bluetooth Works (Using the GC-WB-300D card that came with ga-z77x-up5-th.) Because I'm changing my wifi card, I also purchased this, waiting for it to arrive: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007GFX0PY/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i01
• Sleep works with random keyboard connected by usb cord.
• Sleep doesn't wake from usb logitech mouse
• All ports that I have tested have worked (Haven't tested Thunderbolt, Digital Audio, eSata, Mic in)

My current problem:

My Hack only works when the G5 case is laying flat, with the PS resting on top. When I place the PS inside, sitting at the bottom, and turn the case vertical- my monitor receives no signal. The LED also reads A0.
• I tried having the case vertical and the PS outside of the case - didn't work
• I tried having the case horizontal and the PS inside where it would normally sit (therefore, PS was on it's side) - didn't work
• I lay the case down and pull the PS out and place on top - works.

Am I missing something? Please help if you have an idea!

I plan to add my final parts, buy a liquid CPU cooler to over clock, adding 16gb more RAM, purchasing a new monitor, etc. But upon first test, geekbench came in over 13,000. I will keep everyone updated! Thank you Tonymac and the rest of the Tonymacx86 community for all your help!

Update:

First, I took everything back out of the computer, and put it all back in. I double checked every connection to make sure everything was tight and secure. But again, the computer would only boot while lying down. My biggest concern was the way the GPU sags down in the back. I decided to take out the GPU and booted from the onboard graphics. I did boot up fully while the tower was standing. This helped me isolate that the problem is in fact the GPU.

I was then able to boot up using the GPU, with tower standing, while providing extra support to the GPU. Works! I'm currently writing this post from the working boot-up.

My next plan is to build some sort of mounting bracket to provide additional support for the GPU.

Update:

The bluetooth dongle I bought works OOB. My Apple Keyboard and Trackpad connected immediately, and both awake my computer from sleep.

The new WIFI card i purchased worked OOB as well.

I ordered a new firewire PCIe card, also working OOB for me.

Also, for those wondering, I have yet to build a custom mounting bracket, but everything appears to be working fine. After all of my tests, I think my GTX 670 just needed slightly adjusted after standing the tower up to make sure it was in securely.

My latest geekbench score was 14109.
