Here's a link to a benchmark many are using that will help in deciding what graphic card to buy for FCPX use:

http://www.fcp.co/forum/hardware/18250-brucex-try-this-new-final-cut-pro-x-benchmark
(When you run the benchmark, just output to standard ProRes. Most are having trouble exporting to H264)

I wish I had seen that thread before I purchased my card. I have an MSI GTX 650ti. Works flawlessly. I added a 2nd identical card (just dropped it in - no configuration needed) and FCPX performance increased dramatically. Using this benchmark my times improved from 76 seconds to 48 seconds. The new Mac Pros are scoring below 30 seconds.

When looking for a video card, I would get one with as much VRAM as you can afford and the Radeon cards seem to be handling OpenCL much better than Nvidia.

Post your benchmark times here.

I couldn´t perform the benchmark I get this error:

The share operation "Master File" has failed.˝
The operation could not be completed because an error occurred while exporting (error -12348).

Selecting ProRes 422 as coded worked well tough.
I have OpenCL patched using Macandor´s tutorial and I got 73 secs. on my Msi gtx 760 2gb.
I´ll try to restore OpenCl and see If I get better performance.

i7 2600k
GTX 780
Mavericks
16gb 1600 RAM
10.9.2

Time is 65 seconds for this project.

What am I missing? I gather it's just the issues with the GPU. Seen a lot of threads about that stuff on here.

Hi guys. Im building CustoMac Pro Socket 2011 and im following the instruction what parts i need. now i bought motherboard gax-79-up4 and CPU intel xeon e5 2650,
TP-Link PCI Express
Wifi Adapter,
Corsair H60 (Water),
GeForce GTX 760 . i just wonder if it ganna be easy to install os x 10.9 Mavericks ?

I have two 280Xs and my score was 20 seconds.

This is with a 3770K i7 3.5GHZ and 32GB of RAM using the MP 5,1 profile.

The problem I am having now is that I can't get it to work in 10.9.2.

10.9.1 sees the card as 7xxx and I just don't have the skills to customize the ati7000 kext, or whatever other kext needs to be fixed.

In FCPX and Resolve this rig kicks butt. The only thing is Neat Video noise reduction seems to crash the system. I'm guessing it has to do with Neat Vid not recognizing the card's specs properly.

Luxmark sees the cards as Firepro D700s.

47.18 seconds using your suggested output, Standard ProRes. My system seems speedy! :)

i2500 stock speed, 3.3ghz I think, perhaps ramping up to 3.7 or 3.8 in turbo mode
Radeon HD6870
120GB SSD
16gb 1600mhz ram
OSX 10.9.2
FCPX 10.1.1

Updated to FCPX 10.1.1

New time is 74 seconds. Odd. Another 10+ seconds.

This is after the recent cuda update today. Figured it would no be firing on all cylinders.

I've just built a new Hackintosh to replace my ageing MacPro 1,1. The MacPro 1,1 is an upgraded 8 core Xeon running at 2.6Ghz.

It's a:
Gigabyte Z87X-UD5H
i7 4770 3.4Ghz
16GB 1600 Corsair Memory
512 M4 SSD.
2 x 5770

The reason for the 5770's is that I have a Mac Pro 1,1 and used them in there. One 5770 is a genuine Apple one, one is an Asus one and I have a third which is an XFX model single slot. The latter two cards were £50 each.

I also did the test on a GTX660 3GB as well which was borrowed. Time meant I could only run the GTX660 on the MacPro, not on the Z87X, but the results were instructive :)

As with many people I couldn't get FCPX to output the Bruce X test in H264 so used ProRes 422 instead.

MacPro 1,1 with GTX660 = 181 secs
MacPro 1,1 with 1 x 5770 = 75 secs
MacPro 1,1 with 2 x 5770 = 60 secs
Z87X with 2 x 5770 = 31 secs

I'm still compiling the full set of benchmarks, but the Z87X decided to throw a wobbly and all the USB3 ports stopped working on the back panel, so its being packed up and will be returned for a replacement.

What was interesting was that the GTX 660 was dog-slow when running the FCPX test but according to my other benchmark tests, easily held it's own with anything other than OpenGL tests. I hear people say they are happy with the GTX660 for FCPX but as far as I can see, the performance is very, very poor. I have other FCP X tests I'm running and the 660 is not a card to use with FCPX. Just to balance my opinion, the 660GTX performance in the Heaven benchmark was 78FPS vs 41FPS (2 x 5770).

From what other people have said, it appears the Radeon cards are significantly faster than the nVidia cards and my tests have born this out. What was also interesting is that the new Mac Pro's are only 10 secs faster than my setup costing 1/6 the price. I'm almost tempted to try a pair of 7950's or 7970's :)

This might help somebody looking for a good FCPX system.

Rob.
