These work OOB with macOS. You'll just need to connect the BT cable to an onboard USB 2.0 header. Installs to a PCIe x1 slot. Simple way to get working Wifi/BT and Continuity/Handoff on your hacks. It's really difficult to build your own from parts cheaper than this but it can be done. Buying used on Ebay though, does have drawbacks.

Only one reason I can see to built it from parts and that is you plan to use the existing wifi port on your motherboard, or you plan to use a m.2 slot. Other wise this card is the only way to go on a budget, I have two of them and they both work perfectly, Apple Watch unlock, handoff in both directions, Apple Pay purchases, etc. The wifi might be a slight bit slow for some but I use a wired connection. The BT also works for a keyboard and mouse but I prefer to use the unifying dongle that comes Logitech stuff as I use Logitech keyboard and mouse. I do however, use the BT to connect to my Sony BT speaker.
