I came across kext made by Andy Vandijck that treats our internal video camera as an iSight.
Any Facetime or Skype users who can try it and report back if it's better than vanilla?

This kext is for Primax ProductID=0x4dc7 VendorID=0x0461

EDIT: Added all Facetime related info rather than iSight

Re: iSight Video camera kext for 4530S

I'll give it a shot and update this post.

EDIT - This is after I installed the kext and rebooted. I didn't check it before I installed it. Did it add the [Fixed]?

No, it should rename it to "iSight camera..." ecc.

I tested in photo booth and i doesn't change anything.
I'll leave this Kext enabled in case =)

So, it seems like cosmetic change only.

It is possible that your Product and Vendor ids are different. Not all model has the same exact webcam. Also, you might want to change "Built-in iSight" to "FaceTime HD" or whatever it is on the genuine mac since this laptop has a HD webcam.

Finally, Andy has a similar kext for Bluetooth devices, which is not a cosmetic change as it allows you to wake computer up with Bluetooth devices. Since you have, as far as I've read, problem with bluetooth from time to time, it might help you solve those issues.

Re: iSight Video camera kext for 4530S

@BigDonkey, I installed the kext using KextHelper and it changed to the picture you have in About This Mac. I did notice my resolution in Facetime is not as grainy. It is still a little zoomed in (which I haven't been able to figure out how to fix), but Skype video looks awesome!!! Thanks for finding this.

    Thanks guys for testing!

Thanks for the pointers. I will look at Macbook dump for the proper name.

    @lipo
Your ID's are different. Please try this one.

This kext is for Chicony camera ProductID=0xb230 VendorID=04f2

My Skype video also looks better than Facetime or Photo booth. This camera needs good light.

I also have the same device id as lipo. Can we see a link?

Also, does it appear to be better?

Yeah thats what I was gonna say, the only thing that doesn't work is iMovie. I'm going to install the kext and see if that changes.

    Edit: No change in functionality.
