One feature I liked with all previous versions was that connected USB drives show up on the desktop.
Therefore reminding me to eject them.

Now they show as hard drive icons in finder sidebar, but not on the desktop

Is there a way to revert to the old behaviour?

thanks

my usb shows up as ext. hds on desktop, not sure why yours dont

Hi there.

It's still a part of Finder Preferences. Under the General tab you can choose which behaviour you want.

Not sure why your previous set-up wasn't carried forward though ...

I’ve tried all combinations of show hard disks and external disc, I only see the external disk on the desktop when I select all hard discs to be shown on the desktop.

Can I delete finder preferences? Or is it an issue with the usb set up!

Catalina worked as expected and I did not that to change my EFI partition to upgrade to bid sir.

it’s a minor thing but very annoying. I also think with an external disc plugged it it considers this in the time machine as data to be backed.

Any other ideas?

Ok deleted finder and sidebar .plist files
Still no joy

"Fixed" it by reverting to a system def of iMacPro1,1 instead of iMac17,1

Why that makes I difference I do not know!

Thanks for you help
