I was wondering if there are any suggested external card readers for SD and compact flash cards.
I am guessing USB 3.0 vs USB c would be more reliable with a hackintosh build, but maybe not.

Certainly - something with a cable as my desktop is not close by for plugging and unplugging in devices.

I checking the buying guide but can't see any reference to these devices.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Hi,
I would say that all current computers, regardless of operating system, should accept a current external card reader without any problems. It should make sence to buy a USB-A type, as it is more widely use; the footprint of USB should not cause any compatibility problems too, not to mention that the lack of USB-C accesories already limited your selection.
Most card reader does not have a long cord; you can always use a extension cable. Make sure to obtain a USB 3.0 cable if you got a USB3.0 card reader.
This card reader should fit your need: it features USB 3.0, a 0.5 m/1.5 feet cord, OTG compatibility for Andriod smart phones, and it supports a wide range of cards.
