I am in the process of purchasing components to build a new machine. I want to build an X58 with a core i7 920 processor. I have been contemplating two motherboard models. One is an EVGA and the other is a Gigabyte. Here are the two models.

Gigabyte X58

EVGA X58

I am leaning towards EVGA because of their warranty and customer service. I have also heard and read reviews of some of the newer Gigabyte boards being DOA and many people are having to RMA them. What would you consider better and why?

I would recommend the Gigabyte board simply because more people have purchased it on this forum without any problems (which also means that if you run into trouble there will be more people who know how to help you!).

Something else to note about the EVGA is that there is no description as to what brand or model the onboard sound is made by, and therefore will be really hard to troubleshoot should you run into any problems.

Same deal as above with the LAN, no brand or model.

Rakuun,
What are your reasons for going X58 instead of P55 ?

May be a P55 should serve you as well as the ones you plan, and are much better supported here...

Hey, some people just got to have the best chipset. It's the placebo effect. ;)
Give me freedom or give me death! (y'know, the best - freedom - or the worst - death. Not funny? Well, that's why I'm not a comedian :p).

I decided on X58 instead of the P55 because of speed. The X58 board supports triple channel memory, full 16x on two PCI-E lanes if I decide to do SLI in Window$ and better support for the core i7 processors.

I loves me some triple channel RAM.

Or OS X, you can do SLI with a bit of patching.

No not really.. there's no real "better" support for core i7. It's really just a yes or no whether an i7 is supported. But the i7's under X58 are faster and more efficient (although more power-hungry) than the i7's under P55.

Seriously? Where might I find information on this? I did not know you could.
Here's a post/guide on dual GTX 260's from our very own Jocelyn84, but I recommend that you know your way around OS X really well first:

Here's another guide (dual cards in general):

And here's another guide on just dual cards in general (preferably cards which are supported really well by OS X):

Not a significant difference... Seriously.

Haha not exactly newer processors either. Aside from the 980X, the new i3/i5's have the newer manufacturing tech and the i7 1156 is "newer" than the i7 1366 :)

The i7 difference is just that the processors are stripped of some features in 1156.
