Hi, I got this error trying to install Snow Leopard (attached image). The specs are a bit unconventional but they seem to be compatible with the OS, at least from looking at the compatibility charts. I used iBoot legacy CD.

Hardware:
CPU: Pentium E5200 dual core 2.5GHz with stock cooler
Motherboard: Asus P5KPL 1600
RAM: 2GB DDR2 RAM Team
GPU: Radeon 3650 Sapphire
PSU: 500W Maxpower
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB

I'm guessing it's something to do with the hardware I'm using?

It would be advisable to upgrade the CPU to the best Core 2 Duo that your motherboard can support. An E8400 C2Duo would be a good choice. I've seen them selling for under 5 dollars on Ebay. It's a decent performer for an older CPU.

NOTE: Make sure to flash your BIOS to the newest version available before you upgrade the CPU. Check the Asus website for the files you will need.

Im getting the exactly the same error with my System, with different specs.

Used iboot for Haswell + Retail DVD Snow Leopard

MB: Asus Z97 Maximus VII Ranger
CPU: I7-4790K

I dismounted my GPU and all other Harddrives, but it doesent matter. The same error occors even if the CPU is mounted.

BIOS Settings (set to Default an made following changes):
AHCI - enabled
Fast Boot - disabled
Legacy USB - enabled
VT-D - disabled
OS Support - other os
secure boot - disabled
