I'm wondering if its possible to force OS X to allow for the higher scaled high DPI modes like 2560x1440 on a 4K monitor. If I try to get mavericks to accept a 5120x2880 scaled resolution (which would be required to make a HiDPI 2560x1440 setting), it won't accept it.
I'm using a real MacBookPro11,1 (13-inch rMBP from 2013). Is there any way to "trick" OS X into thinking that I actually have a MacBookPro11,2 or MacPro6,1 so I can get the higher DPI modes? Of note, I was able to get SST 4K output at 51.75Hz on this thing by modifying the right system files, so I'm not sure why Apple is crippling this thing.
I'm posting this here because I'm betting that a lot of other hackintosh users are having similar issues getting appropriate HiDPI settings using haswell's IGP under 4K... it seems like this is a similar issue.
EDIT.... Is there a way for me to give a real mac the SMBIOS.plist of another machine?
