Quick question about video editing, if anyone can help me out.

I've ordered this machine, an HP Elite 8300 i7 SFF 16GB RAM, because I need something quick and functional, and it seems fairly easy to get up and running.

My question is this: can I get away with the GT 1030 card? I'd like to save the $100 extra that the GTX 1050 Ti costs, but I'm worried the 1030 won't get the job done. The machine will be used for fairly heavy video editing in Premiere and graphics work in AE and C4D.

Thanks so much for your advice.

I'm just switching to Premiere from years of Final Cut, but my understanding is that the current build of PP can really leverage the power of a) as much RAM as you can give it and b) more powerful video cards for significant performance gains. CPU is less important for actual cutting, but it will make an impact on transcoding and outputs.

If it's not out of reach, try and get a 1070 or 1080 - I understand the difference over a 1030 is supposed to be massive.

If you're going to edit in Premiere the 1050 Ti 4GB L.P. card is the best choice. The 1050 Ti has to be low profile and is one of the best performing card you can use with the PSU in the 8300. You could also go with the Quadro P600 if you will use multiple 4K monitors. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06X9DWQM6/?tag=tonymacx86com-20

I think it will be worth the extra money if time is a factor in your work. I don't know how you define "heavy editing" but it would indicate you need the extra speed and Vram that the 1050 Ti will offer. Once you get the 8300 check the make and model of ram that is installed and get a matching 16GB kit to upgrade to 32 GB and you'll be set. If it is HP branded ram you can often find it on Ebay from a reputable seller.

Thanks so much for your replies. What I mean by 'heavy editing would be' RED footage (4k and sometimes higher) and basic compositing/FX in After Effects and C4D...

Would this particular Gigabyte version work?

Thanks again.

Yes, you definitely want the 1050 Ti to work with 4K. The Gigabyte or MSI versions both work equally well.

Hello trs96 -

The current Buyer's Guide has no MSI cards listed; is it safe to assume that a card from MSI will work as well as a card from any other brand?

I'm looking specifically at the 1080 ti Gaming X from MSI.

Thanks in advance.

yes, MSI will work just as well as other brands in the Guide.

The Nvidia Quadro P2000 is low profile and single slot. It has 1024 Cuda cores.

For the HP 8300 SFF @PDE would need to go with the P1000 which has the LP option.

The P600 would be even closer to his stated budget range for the graphics card.

Oops. You're right. I thought the P2000 was low profile.
