For noobs like me just a convenient reminder what EC RESET is in case you forget after a while.
* It solves many random odd issues when you least expect to happen, usually out in the field.
* And maybe a convenient way to hashtag a canned response for noobs trying out the probook and os x

EC reset: shutdown, remove battery, remove AC plug, hold power down 30 sec, put everything back & restart.
Embedded Controller.
It is an internal device on the motherboard that controls things like the fan, keyboard, trackpad, and other stuff (not really sure).

Sometimes it gets into a bad state, and you have to cut power to it to effect a reset. The purpose of holding the power button is to drain any capacitor still providing power.

It fixed my touchpad today. I plugged in Ethernet cable and noticed that touchpad is not working, boot to windows and still the same, EC reset made it ok.

I've used it quite a few times... as you might have expected... I do a lot of kernel/IOKit dev work on this laptop, and sometimes the code doesn't work out so well causing crashes, KPs, lockups, strange behavior, and other uglies.

But it has fixed:
- PS2 port non-functional and spamming system.log with 'unexpected data...' in the PS2 input stream
- Ctrl and Fn keys swapped
- Graphic Glitches that won't go away...
- Battery status acting strangely (not charging w/ AC plugged in)
- probably other stuff I've simply forgot about...

Not 30 seconds, and 15. Confirm!

But hold the power button for 30 seconds, not necessarily! Enough for 15 seconds.:)
