Easiest post 2013 laptop under $500 to Hackintosh w/ El Capitan - Suggestions?

Hello community!

I wasn't sure if I should post this here, but this seemed like the most logical place.

My Acer Aspire v5-572 just died recently. A screw came lose in the case while it was on and appeared to have shorted out everything. Sucks.

I'm looking for a new budget laptop to turn into a hackintosh! I wondered if anyone had any suggestions. The Acer was a pretty easy project!

If anyone could be so kind, here is my criteria:
- Under $500. Under 400 is even better
- i5 or i7... 2.0ghz or higher
- 4 mb of ram or higher
- 500 Gb drive or higher... The option for a replacement and/or additional drive would be great!
- Size of machine does not matter
- HDMI port
- At least 1 USB 3 port
- El Capitan (latest)

Anything better than my Acer would be great! It wasn't hard to convert the Acer and I'm hoping to find another model that is as simple.

Thanks for taking the time. Any help is highly appreciated.

The key is knowing what hardware makes for good compatibility.

And looking for one that has a well written guide.

I just realized you can't edit the subject. It should be El Capitan...

Hi, Rehabman!

In the past, if I recall correctly, the hardware in certain models used to be known.

For example Acer [Name of Product] (Model #: IE: A484bf333w)

Some people would recommend a model because they knew the hardware in it was compatible. Is this no longer the case? This is why I thought I could ask for models that were easy to configure.

Guides are here: http://www.tonymacx86.com/el-capitan-laptop-guides/

It really depends a lot on what your requirements are. By reading the guide for a prospective laptop, you can (in a well written guide) discover what is working and what is not. From that point, you can decided whether it meets your needs or not.

You could get yourself a HP Prebook 4530s or 4540s they're cheap enough now on eBay. If you get the i3 version of the 4540s windows 8 version note that the CPU is soldiered it has to be either a i5 or i7 version to have a CPU Socket.

Thanks, Jbamford!

I'll look into those.

I'm a bit slow... I also noticed the laptops people have in their signatures. I'll check those as well.

If anyone also knows good places to order cheap laptops online, please pass it on.

No problem. I can say that the HP Probooks, Elitebooks & Zbooks are by far the easiest laptops to hackintosh. Check out this guide. [Guide] HP ProBook/EliteBook/Zbook using Clover UEFI hotpatch (10.11)
That really isn't true any more. In some ways, other laptops such as the Lenovo u330/u430 are better and just as easy to install (actually easier).

As to whether you find one under $500, depends on your region of the world, new vs. used, and hardware specs.
