Do Mac Definitions make a difference?

I have the Mac Definition 3,1 set right now, but I really don't know what it really does beside make to Hackintosh think it's that model of a Mac. If it makes a difference performance wise, what definition would be good for my set up?

@FFKH,

It really depends on your hardware .... MacPro 3,1 is quite an old spec but tends to be the easiest to get to working on most PC Hardware.

Depending upon your CPU and Mobo Chipset some of the more advanced OS X kernel level features of Mavericks and Yosemite may not be activated unless your using an SMBIOS / Sys Deff for a apple model that supports those features/architecture. Take a look at Mac-Tracker to research what Apple model most closely matches your PC hardware - More info in this subject is in Chapter 4.2 of my iMessage/OS X configuration guide.

Cheers

Alright thanks, will do :D

Note: If you change your system def/SMBIOS type then you should alos generate a new OS X S/N to reflect the new sys type and update MLB if needed.
