Hey,

I own a mid 2012 retina Macbook Pro which I still quite like. It is fast enough for my working from home requirements.
Unfortunately I am suffering from the red light issue. The SPDIF is permanently activated and the internal speakers don't work.

I have read the internet up and down in order to find a solution, used alcohol, match sticks, a bend needle, to no extend.
I have even nailed down the board and identified the right spot where the SPDIF detection is located. Unfortunately I cannot dismantle the logic board without breaking something.

I am wondering if there is a software solution for this, as there are quite a few interesting posts out there.

This page for instance talks about using verb 70D on NID 8 in order to disable SPDIF: stuffedcow.com

Or here someone explains in theory how it should work: discussions.apple.com

I am running Opencore Legacy Patcher and I wonder if Lilu can help to implement this override and how it would look like.
Maybe some more experienced user could help to alleviate this nuisance. I think many many many other users are having the same exact problem. It also looks like Apple has removed SPDIF from their newer models as the logic board replacements were shrinking their margins..

Anyway, I really hope for some guidance and help to get this solved in software.
