So far we have built two systems (specifications below) and both of them are having the same issue. Running Adobe Premiere Pro CC or Adobe Media Encoder CC under heavy CPU and/or GPU load results in black screens or picture freezes. Sometimes after half an hour, sometimes already after two minutes of encoding / rendering video material. Neither the CPU or the GPU reach any "high" temperatures. Both systems have the latest BIOS, Nvidia Webdrivers and CUDA drivers and run great besides the issues mentioned above.

System 1:
  • Intel® Core™ i7-6950X (with XCPM)
  • MSI GeForce GTX 1080 Gaming X 8G
  • Asus Rampage V Edition 10 Gaming
  • Samsung 960 PRO NVME 512GB
  • Corsair Vengeance LPX CMK32GX4M4C3000C15 64GB
  • Corsair HX850i
  • Sierra 10.12.6
  • 2x Dell Ultra HD (4K) Monitors

System 2:
  • Intel® Core™ i7-6700K
  • MSI GeForce GTX 1080TI Founders Edition 11GB
  • GA-Z170X-Ultra Gaming (F23)
  • Samsung 960 PRO NVME 512GB
  • Corsair Vengeance LPX CMK32GX4M4C3000C15 64GB
  • Corsair RM750i
  • Sierra 10.12.4
  • 2x Dell Ultra HD (4K) Monitors

Issues:
  • Screens go black
  • Picture freezes (mouse can still be moved)

Things that we have already tried:
  • Replacing the NVME SSD with a normal SSD/HDDs
  • Ran memtest86 for several hours
  • Removed unnecessary kext files for audio, ethernet, usb port support

Looking at the system.log file, the only repeating pattern before every crash is "Unknown key for integer: _DirtyJetsamMemoryLimit" and "AdobeCrashReporterInitialize". (see excerpt logs below)

Does anyone have similiar problems? Any help would be appreciated. We don't want to run Windows on them :D

Thanks!

Hi there,

Has your problem evolved since you posted?
I had the same issue with a GTX 970 under High Sierra, so I decided to go back to Sierra, which didn't solve anything..
I realised that playback is weirdly much smoother under Premiere Pro with previews set on OpenCL instead of CUDA, but system still crashes/freezes when exporting...

same issue, GTX 1070 High Sierra using CUDA based on other forum recommendations. No solution yet. Crashing 20-30 times a day.

@Reniatog Sorry for the late response. We were not able to fix the issue and had to install Windows on both systems in the end...

That sucks. I changed the RC6 Render Standby in my BIOS (power management) settings to "disable" and switched my product ID to an 18,3 iMac build (previously 14,2) and it doesn't crash now. Media Encoder still gets hung up and wont export this relatively small project at all but it's less of a headache now. That's where I am atm

update, some other suggestions I've tried so far with varying success (only AE is problematic now)
  • Underclocking your RAM (in BIOS frequency settings use the + and - to change value)
  • Remove CUDA entirely
  • set the product ID 19,1 or 14,2
  • turn off XMP for better stability

Same issue here in 2020 on a newer Mojave build. Sapphire Vega 64, i9-9900k. Tried hardware and software encoding.

With AE I use Rendergarden (no issues in the few times I've tried), but Premiere doesn't have that luxury.
