Desktop question: Why sleep?
Makes sense for laptops. But desktops?
My small white box (intel HD630 graphics) draws very little power.
The power supply's fan doesn't even kick on unless I push the CPU. I usually do not.
No spinning disks.
Stock CPU fan and case fan.

Sleep mode powers down some components.
This puts more stress on them, not less.
The Cool down / heat up cycle attracts condensation, at least in the topics.

So again, why sleep?

Good question.

1) Environmental concerns I suppose. For example a million desktop computers on and running versus half of them being asleep. A power consumption thing in a large population.

2) POH - Power On Hours - a way to judge wear in components. 15,000 POH say...

Many years ago it was suggested to do as you do to avoid start-up, shut-down stress, but I think modern motherboards ramp-up and down power more gently these days. No empirical proof, but they seem to shut down systems one at a time etc. As for condensation... Where I am this is never an issue. Brrrrr!"
