Dell Optiplex 7090 Micro: RX 640?

Selecting the optional LP RX 640 means you have to change the CPU from one with a 65W TDP to one of the lower end CPU's with a 35W TDP, i.e. the 'T' version of the i5-10500.

This system would probably work better with macOS overall using the 10th Gen IGPU in one of the faster/more powerful i5-10505, i5-10600, i7-10700 or i9-10900 CPUs.

Yes indeed. Curious that the page still offers a price for a build that won't work. But the yellow warnings are there.

Even so downgrading to the iGPU of a 65w CPU only, doesn't seem to leave much wiggle-room for the rest of the PC with just a 65w PSU.

Yes, I know there are options for 90w, 130w and 180w.

So I was making points about what I saw as bad coding of the web-page. Check out the screengrab in post#10 = i9-10900 + RX 640 + Optiplex Micro 7090 65W = for which Dell quote CAD $1939.00.

I've clearly misunderstood the 65W thinking it was a 65W PSU. Perhaps it is just a model-number after all.

So apologies to all. My mistake.

Thanks to both of you I guess there is no way to know if the RX 640 will work without trying and I don't feel like buying it just to know

Okay, because I don't want you to spend money on a PC that might not perform as you hope when converted to a Hackintosh ...

I've scanned the Dell documentation as deeply as I can and I think these PCs use the Q570 Intel chipset. If I've understood this correctly then with a 500-series chipset like this and a 10th Gen CPU you won't be able to obtain accelerated iGPU graphics. You will probably get output but it will be slow, with artefacts, tearing and very juddery with no translucent effects.

To cure this you will need a discrete GPU.

So unless I've missed something, bear this in mind.

Gotcha ! You're right I had forgotten about it. So there is 2 scenarios where there is no IGPU?

No IGPU with Intel 11th Gen.
No IGPU with 500 series chipset.

Thats's correct?

Not quite.

No IGPU with 11th Gen Intel, is correct.

No IGPU with 500 series chipset, is not correct.

If you use a 10th Gen Intel and a Z570 chipset then the IGPU will work in macOS.

The Dell system uses the Q570 chipset, not a compatible Z570 chipset. Won't matter which CPU/IPGU you select, the issue is with the Q570 chipset not being compatible with macOS.

The RX 640 is usually a mobile/integrated AMD GPU, none of the mobile/integrated AMD GPU’s are supported in macOS.

If you have a specific discrete low profile RX 640 you are using, give us some more information about the card, i.e. Make, model number, number and type of connectors, device ID, etc.
