I haven't tried mode 3 yet. I'll let you know how I get on when I get round to it :D

Here are the kernel panics. I couldn't get a photo to come out well, so I typed them out. They're easier to read this way, though I suppose a true nerd would edit them so they're in a fixed width font on a black background.

Thank you very much for offering to help. One of the most important reasons I bought this particular laptop was the high level of support offered by everyone on this thread. If it wasn't for you guys I would have no choice but to pay twice as much money for a very used Macbook or convert to The Dark Side.

I currently have Windows 7 installed on the laptop. iBoot recognizes it as an operating system, and I can boot into Windows through iBoot. My plan was to get OS X to the point where I could start up from the DVD, reformat and partition the hard drive, and then install OS X and Windows 7 on separate partitions. I've been following Tonymac's guide for installing OS X with iBoot and Multibeast. Anyhow, when I try to use the OS X DVD or to boot directly from iBoot, here are the kernel panics I get:

Using iBoot Legacy
In -v mode, attempting to boot directly from iBoot Legacy disc and attempting to boot with the 0S X 10.6.3 DVD produce the same kernel panic.
When the bootloader is open, the upper right hand corner says:

Build date: 2011-01-21 21:31:07

The kernel panic:

Now I am back to using my original CPU, I am able to use my original Kexts - so I use FakeSMC, not evoreboot.

I have been having a few issues with KP's myself. I having been reading through the thread about the DSDT mods for the Alienware laptops, and am trying to take a stab at adding P-states to my old T7500 DSDT as my geek bench score has dropped again. I used the VoodooPstate kext and got my P-states from PStateChanger.

I have patched my HPET but am still getting a panic stating that there is no HPET.. I have also patched my TMR and RTC... I tried SMBIOS 5,1 and 6,1 with same result.. also, I noticed that I appear to have 2 x Scope \_SB, one at the top and one at the bottom.

What am I doing wrong?

Thank you so much ellnic. I've been struggling for 4 days with getting 10.6.8 to work properly. Following your simple guide after jumping through hoops on more complicated tutorials did the trick on my Gateway M-6827 Notebook. Just one hiccup; when attempting to download Safari 5.1, got a message saying the computer wasn't connected to a power source. Both 110v and battery are working properly. That's a new one for me. Now to tackle the Lion.

I just like to report my success with my Inspiron 1720 with intel 965 chipset and graphics, T5750, Broadcom wireless and 4GB mushkin memory. 10.6.8 up and running flawlessly except I haven't tested sleep yet. Strange that the drivers just stop working when you update. I installed originally from a 10.6.3 retail disc and everything was working without modifications then (except boot of course). But you guys saved me alot of head scratching time, keep up the excellent work

ok, I just got a 1520 and I try to install SL again on it for a friend ( together with XP).
The standard installation with iBoot and Multibeast was ok, but strangely after first reboot no USB stick is recognized ( USB mouse works) . I dont use DSDT, I already rolled back USB but nothing happens.

Hi ellnic,

Would it be possible for you to send me a breakdown of your Dell 1720 Snow Leopard install.

I have the Dell 1720 that is an awesome machine but I have been trying to install Snow Leopard on for a while, it is a standard Dell 1720 apart from the processor that I have upgraded, (see below).

The processor has been upgraded to an Intel Core 2 Duo T8300 2.40GHz.

6 GB ram.

Plus I have a genuine Snow Leopard OS X 10.6.3 install dvd.

I have tried several boot options but as of yet cant get past the white screen hang up.

I am attempting to install to a HGST 500gb 7200rpm sata hard drive.

I would be very grateful if you could help me with this, if you require ant further information, please email me and I will do my best to answer the what you need.

I am pretty much ok with computer builds, but I have been baffled with some of the things I have seen with the Mac, so please bare with me.

Regards,

jamo224.
