Hi all on the fence about getting one of these two 27" monitors. Have used dells over the years and they are great. However this Asus looks good and reviews are fantastic.

Other day I got the asus - it's on the way now. But just saw this dell and noticed the power supply is out of the case - that is really good as from what I hear 99% of the time when monitors go bad it is due to the power supply going bad [capacitors going out]. Also read one bad thing about asus that the stand is cheap...

BTW both are $299 and both have 3 years warranty:

Please throw in your feedback - it is greatly appreciated!!

I think you answered the question yourself from a technical standpoint - all other things being equal, it sounds like the Dell is a better choice because of the external power supply and the flimsier stand on the Asus. Aesthetically, I think the Dell is nicer looking as well.

Do you have a coupon or something for the Dell? It says $350 for me?

Also, 27" for 1080p is really low in the pixel per inch category. . . at least for me. If I went 27" I would go for 1440p.

For $300 I would highly consider the Dell U2412m:

What kind of work are you doing? Photos? Gaming? This really helps with the decision. . . .
Both of your monitors have distinct differences: IPS vs TN, etc.

Hey thanks guys!!

@ MechSoup // amazon has that for 299 - I sent a newegg link

hmm looking at the 24" now -- too many nice monitors out there

will be used for game development - unity engine - mainly to hook up the work mac book pro 13"

your advice is greatly appreciated as I am a audio guy by profession and not super hip to video tech

Between the two monitors that you have listed: The Dell will have better color difference than the Asus, but the Asus will have better response time (this would help in first person shoot type games) than the Dell. The Dell, however has decent response time and I don't think a programmer would notice the difference . . . . unless you play fps type games a lot?

Either way, I think you will be happy.

Nice! Thanks guys ---asus came in today - sadly it is a bit Janky - stand stinks and it looks pixelated : ( -- it moves all over like a bobble head if I try to adjust anything. Dell is on the way - I will send this one back. Once the dell comes in I will let you know.

Thanks!!

Dell came in today -----wow!! It is so much better!!

Stand is solid metal inside with plastic outside. LCD is sharper and and enclosure is way better with has a nice glossy glass exterior. Glad I tried it. Going to keep the Dell and maybe trade up to the 27" Ultra Sharp or Korean next month.

Thanks for all the input!!
