Hi there guys,

I had a friend build me a hackintosh about 2 years ago that had been running very smoothly up until last night. Now it won't start, or occasionally will boot but has crazy CPU usage and then auto shuts down. Unfortunately said friend is unavailable for tech support so i turn to you guys for assistance! When booting, most of the time at the American Megatrends BIOS screen I get an error message of "CPU Over Temperature Error!" and when I enter the BIOS Setup menu the CPU temperature gauge is at 87C which doesn't seem right at all. I tried resetting the CMOS and reinstalling the BIOS to no avail, so if anybody could help out at all I would really appreciate it as I use this computer for work as a sound engineer. I'm not sure what information you might require but I know the motherboard is an Asus P8Z68-V-PRO.

Thanks in advance.

Check that your heat sink is securely placed over the CPU and the fan works.
You may need to reapply new thermal compound on the CPU's IHS and then
replace the heatsink after that to keep it cooler and to keep the cpu from
going up in flames. :O

Hi guys, same issue here... have you found a solution back then? Thanks

Check that all your fans are still working. Use some compressed air to clean off whatever dust build up is around the fans and heatsink.
