OSX is not limited to the speed that you memory functions. That is down to your motherboard more than anything else. Much faster memory can be used easily. Please note that Haswell is not fully supported yet.

The new MacBook Air leaves the factory with a Haswell version of Mountain Lion that is not yet available to download from the Apple App Store. Hopefully only a couple more weeks to wait. Suspect mid August at the very latest.
