Hi guys,

I got a H61 Gigabyte motherboard with an i5 Sandy Bridge CPU. Worked great with Sierra and usually had more that two months uptime..
I updated to High Sierra from within the OS and then managed to install 10.13.2 after updating FakeSMC and LiLu kexts in Clover. Not using APFS currently..

Problem is that I come back to my office to find the PC shut off.. It happens suddenly since Chrome says it quit unexpectedly.

Can you please help me out to solve this new issue? Where can I look, a log or something, to give me some pointers..

Thank you in advance,

BR,
George

I copied the last messages before shut down.. can you please take a look? maybe something rings a bell...

this problem solved after clean install

I did a clean install but the problem is still there... If I leave the computer alone for a couple of hours I come back to find it shut down.

Hi @F-bone did you find a solution for your issue?

Hi @F-bone did you find a solution for your issue?
Although NOT A PERFECT solution, for a Desktop System, a suitable work around is the following:

  • Click System Preferences >Energy Saver
    • Remove [√] Put hard disk to sleep when possible
    • Remove [√] Wake for network access
    • Computer sleep slider to whatever time you expect to return to use it or "Never"
    • Display Sleep Slider to similar move.

Thanks for your quick reply.

Can you confirm that with the above settings you can reach longer uptimes? More than 2 days uptime?

I had "hard disk to sleep when possible" enabled and "Display Sleep Slider" set to several minutes (not never). The rest was already set as suggested. Let's see if by changing them that resolves the issue.

"Never" will keep it on with the the screen saver on the Monitor Display. It will wake up by hitting Keyboard or Mouse movement. You can keep in this state of suspended animation for as long as there is no Power Failure.
Please remember your System Fans have a finite lifetime spin number and if you keep your system Powered for days on end, be prepared for Fan Replacement at shorter intervals to keep the machine cool.

I know what you mean.

Unfortunately I don't think the issue is related to the monitor display going to sleep.

I did the following experiment to sleep/wake the screen about 50 times in a row, with more or less sleeping time interval. No issue observed.

But I've noticed that this is when I don't touch the computer (the computer is still running but not doing any specific tasks) and come back after several hours that freezing occur within a few minutes of use. So it might be the hard disk sleep mode causing this...

The fact that I'm having no success triggering this issue manually makes me think that it's either sleep-related or hardware fault/incompatibility.

@Thireus I am also running the ASUS Rampage VI Extreme, and I am experiencing random reboots while using the machine like someone hit the reset button. I also experience straight lockups/freezes as well, but that is rarer. Were you ever able to resolve the issue with your ASUS Rampage VI Extreme system?
