Computer Freeze / cpus=1

I built a successful Hackintosh, so I thought, and then out of no where it crashes on me while I am using Pro Tools. The crash went like this: everything froze.

I've been using Pro Tools along with some adobe programs this past month with zero issues. I have no idea what happened.

The only way I can reboot the computer now is using the flag "cpus=1"
Without the flag I get stuck at "System Uptime"



I have tried downloading the lapic kernel patch and VoodooTSCSync.kext and that did not help either.

Update: I can also run the computer using flag "cpus=6"... Meaning I'm able to run but only on 6 out of my 8 cores.

Any suggestions?

I have been doing this for several years and have learned the hard way it is not logical to run software on a hackintosh that would run more stably and faster in its Windows version but to each his/her own.

Clearly something has changed, either hardware or software. I assume you have unplugged un-needed USB and other peripherals to see if they are causing problems.

In my experience when things go south in a hackintosh it is easier to restore than anything else unless you have the expertise to analyze plists and such. So I hope you have used Time Machine or a cloning program. Restoring in my experience may require rebooting with Unibeast and reinstalling the boot loader.

My rig is an older sandy bridge version of your machine, same sdd, and I started having problems in Po Tools HD. Turned out to be a bad stick of ram. Pro tools uses it's fair share of memory, so I swapped sticks until I figured out which one was bad. Run memtest (how to and downloads together by typing into google memtest mac and the first result is a really good how to guide with the download link. My kicked out kicked out so many errors that I could immediately tell. Hope that helps.
