Many people have attempted a completely fanless build and failed for various reasons. Noctua has now taken all the guesswork out of doing this. They have complete compatibility lists for every case, motherboard and CPU that you could use this with. It is more expensive but it should last nearly forever. Anyone that wants complete silence for recording audio should look into this. Today you can buy good fanless PSUs, graphics cards etc.

Here's the most highly rated cases (By Noctua) for using with their passive cooler. The common themes includes Aluminium construction and lots of interior room for airflow.
