Comments

After dipping my toe in the hackintosh universe with an Elite 8000 build, I decided I was ready to build my first hackintosh from scratch. The build revolves around the NCASE M1 case. I wanted something small, fast, quiet, and capable of driving a 4K monitor. Machine is primarily used for development and gaming. The build has been up and running for almost a year with a 750Ti, but it couldn't drive the monitor at 4K/60Hz. Card was a loaner while I waited for Pascal drivers. Those haven't come yet, so I got the 980Ti and it finally feels complete. Build started out on El Capitan and was updated to Sierra through App Store with no issues.

Installation Notes

Not much to see here. I followed neilhart’s excellent guide. I enabled VT-d and virtualization so I could run 64bit VM’s. Also, despite his warning, I updated the BIOS after everything was working. After the update I had to reset some settings for the machine to boot correctly.

What Works:
Audio
Ethernet
Sleep/Wake
iMessage

Not Working:
Audio after wake from sleep
Purchased iTunes videos ( trailers work )

Many thanks to everyone here who made this possible!

Nice build!

To get audio after wake-up, use KextBeast to install Rehabman's Codec Commander kext for making the audio (after wakeup from sleep) work. Put the kext on your Desktop, run KextBeast and select /L/E/ folder for CodecCommander.kext. Restart, and you'll have audio after wake-up.

Hmm, unfortunately that doesn't seem to work. After restarting, still no audio after wake up. I downloaded the latest Codec Commander kext, so maybe I need to try a different version? I also verified that the kext was in /L/E. Should it be /S/L/E instead?

Let's see if it loaded. In the top menu, click on the Apple symbol and click on About This Mac. Then, click on the System Report.

In the System Report, go to Software > Extensions. (Give a couple of seconds to list them all.) Then, look for CodecCommander.list. If it's there, you got it loaded, and it should work for you.

If CodecCommander.kext is not there, check also on the the kexts in /L/E/. Let me know what you find out.

I see CodecCommander 2.6.2 loaded in the System Report.

I'm putting the machine to sleep through the Sleep menu item under the apple menu. Waking the machine up through the keyboard and then playing a song through iTunes to test. Still no sound after wake.

Wow I was just spec-ing out basically this same build a few minutes ago! Only difference was I was using a GA-Z170N Wifi board. Did you happen to get wifi/handoff working on this?

@samcat116 WIFI and Handoff on ASUS Z170i as well as Gigabyte GA-Z170N WIFI works only when replacing the built-in m.2 wifi/Bluetooth card with a Broadcom BCM94352Z, look for Details at this Thread from @neilhart

I have both Motherboards, works on both, connecting the antenna is a bit tricky, but doable.

Hello, do you have any issue for installing jdownloader software? This is a very famous soft to download many soft in same time.

I've read somewhere that it has to be installed in the /S/L/E instead. I wish I remember the source.
