Hey guys and gals,

Picked up a cheap USB wi-fi stick (mini sized actually) for my raspberry Pi a while back. Was curious and tried it out on my Hack. Unfortunately the Ralink software would not work on my ML 10.8.5 system, however it runs fine on my upgraded Mavericks 10.9. In fact I get same speeds as my Ethernet as well. I get confused by 150Mbps with regards to my actual broadband speeds.

So just a heads up for anyone in the UK looking for a cheap USB wifi option. The one I have is a Ralink RT5370 but I believe some of their other models RT2870 etc. use the same software.

if anything it frees up an Ethernet port on my router for my other toys.

Thank you Spang.
Could you upload it here that do not like me emails to register.

Update: I got it!

Hi, I got the same dongle on my notebook and it works fine on 10.9.0 with this driver http://store.bearextender.com/pages/support .
In my experience, with a brand new install (instead an upgrade) the MediaTek driver doesn't work fine (the notebook didn't turn off completely).
Hope this could help someone.

Bye

Thanks Spang !!! and Mr_Bartleboom
I used Bear Extender driver
This worked with Rosewill Easy n1 USB adapter. It is 2870 chip.
Ran the old Ralink uninstall.
Ran the new driver remove all files.
Ran install for new driver.
Went to sys pref network.
Selected wireless and it worked.
This is on Ga-b75m h3d.

This did still not cure iMessages on Mavericks, but it did fix the non working ralink driver whihc did work in 10.8.3
