change iMac definition --> new serialnumber?

Hi,

sometimes you choose a mac definition and during the time another mac definition would fit better to your rig.
For example you took imac 18,2 with a "valid" serialnumber, you are logged in with icloud and have the imac in your account.
Then you decide to take 19,1, so a new mac.
Do you change the serialnumber too?

Yes. Serial numbers encode the model, location of manufacture, and year/week of manufacture. If you change anything in your SMBIOS information you must regenerate your serial # and check to make sure it's not one attached to a real Mac already, along with board ID and all other info.

Yes when changing SMBIOS you need to generate a complete new set of critical system ID's (S/N, MLB ..etc)
Use the method detailed in the iMessage guide :-



Be sure to logout of all Apple on-line services first (iCloud, iTunes, iMessage ..etc) before making any changes.

it is important to check and to ensure for use properly, i recommand too a clean install in this case with new serial
