You have to disable AppleGFXHDA too.

Thanks for this thread! Had the same issue using an old Boss multieffect pedal as an interface so just chalked it up to older hardware. Got a brand new Rode ai-1 audio interface today and encountered the same problem. Disabled iGPU and serial ports in bios and all working perfectly. Don't need either of those so I don't really care which one caused it.
 
I don't have serial ports setting in BIOS :(

maybe you have Super I/O setting. That's giving you the option to de/activate serial port. It did help here as well, with a Fireface 400.
 
I had the same problem. I tried so many ways to fix it. But it did not work. One day,I turned the serial ports off from the bios. And it worked.

Disabled my serial port and voila!
