Hello everyone,

I have been stuck for a while such as many others at the start of a Catalina clean install on what seems to be the Catalina doom of apfs_module_start : 1683. Some people found a solution by installing a SSDT-EC.aml in CLOVER/ACPI/patched and installing the latest version of lilu.kext and whatevergreen.kext

It was not a solution for me.

I tried also playing around with the system definition but without luck. My next step would be trying to downgrade the BIOS version but I'm unsure of it.

This new setup is with the Asus rog maximus hero XI and the processor is a I7-8700K. I'm not using a graphic card yet, I'll look into it once it is running, so the monitor is simply on the intel output.

I would take any suggestions I attached the EFI, in case someone could have a look at it?

I was in the same boat and was bailed out using ssdt-ec.aml. I wanted to ask the people that helped me what exactly this patch did, but did not, as I am not that technical and figured I run across the answer at some point for this .aml file. I did ultimately find what I think is the answer in a post about usb. I also have a radeon card and could not install plugged intodisplayport and had to use hdmi. I know you said you are using the motherboard video, and that may be contributing to your problem. I didnt check out your efi, but not using a video card may be the problem. You might get someone to chime in since I put @balazs631 in your post.
Also, you ultimately may have more than one problem installing Catalina. 1 is installing with onboard video, and 2, the EC power aspect of the usb fixed with the ssdt patch

Apply the following patch to config.plist and try again.

FIX for boot hangs after BIOS update (ACPI PATCH)

This is an ACPI Patch for the people who update to the last bios and can't boot. My board is the MSI B360A-Pro and has the latest bios 7B22v27. First add the patch (the blue line from the picture) to clover config, then apply the Bios update. To easily add the patch using terminal, read post #48

you can try this RTC fix or change SMBIOS imac18.1(as you not using a graphic card yet ) or both. i can boot with imac18.1,but when i use imac 19.1 or 19.2 it will stuck at apfs_module_start:1683. Some ASUS motherbord need use the RTC fix. my Gigabyte does not

Hello everyone. I was finally able to get rid of the apfs 1683 doing different things. Using only the SSDT-EC did not help, I had to use also the SSDT-PNLF and SSDT-USBX
I'm attaching here the EFI partition for other people who would be using the same mobo, knowing that is set for an use without a dGPU. A few things have still to be fixed, but at least you'll get to the installer and be able to install Catalina!
