Hi there, I'm just about to pull the trigger on my first build - a nice CustoMac Pro. Brief specs:

ASUS ROG STRIX Z370-F GAMING
EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 SC GAMING 8GB
Intel i7-8700K
Ballistix Sport LT 32GB RAM
Samsung 960 EVO M.2 NVMe PCI-E 500GB
Corsair H60 CPU Cooler

I'm looking for a funky case for this. Something with LEDs or glass could be interesting (I'm not a fan of generic PC boxes). I've loved my Mac Pro "cheese grater" for over 12 years. Can I pick most any case I can find, or are there limitations based on the motherboard? Are there any compatibility or other issues I should be aware of? I've upgraded my Mac Pro quite a bit, but am not a super techie. Thanks in advance for your help!

Any standard ATX case will work. Nothing special you need to be aware of.

If you are into glass and LED lighting this Corsair case should be on your short list.

Make sure to stock up on Windex or other comparable glass cleaning solution. Would be a nice upgrade from all the AL in your old Mac Pro. Personally I prefer just one pane of TG on the left side panel. Gives the build a premium feel without too much glass to worry about scratches or breakage.

I would also look at a better AIO cooler for the 8700K. The H60 will only do an adequate job if you are at stock speeds. Even then it's not the best choice in terms of noise and cooling performance.

Oooh... That's pretty cool. Thanks! What would you recommend for the cooler? I guess that case has no front ports (USB, audio, etc). That's pretty handy for quickly connecting a HDD, etc. That was one reason I had asked about the case - I'm not sure what ports on the motherboard would connect to the front of the case (if any). Thanks!!

If you want Corsair get the H100i. There are some other options in the Buyer's Guide if you want quieter fans. The front I/O on the case is on the top right side. So the Case should be to the left of your desk if you buy this one.

Awesome - thanks so much. I don't have any brand preference. Ideally I just want something that will do the job, be pretty quiet, and that I don't need to fiddle with. If the H100i fits the bill, then great! Would the ARCTIC Freezer i30 be a better choice? Amazon says it's 0.30 sones at full speed, while the H100i seems to be more like 0.45 (if I'm reading it correctly). Thanks again for your help.

If you are more concerned with noise then yes, the air cooler is going to better. I've never used that one but the specs look like it can handle the 8700K. Make sure the case airflow is good too. Look at some of the Noctua brand coolers as well if quietness is a major consideration. With air cooling and no radiators you could also go with the smaller Crystal 460X case instead.

Thanks again. I found this Noctua one - seems like it could work well.

These are some of my favourite full ATX cases:

This one looks very much like something that Apple could have come out with (minus the optional glass panel)

This is the best one if you really loved your cheese grater and want a similar design. Plus, it has multiple orientations.

And this, if you want a glass/led gaming look. But still with an appleish clean aluminum front panel.

Streacom is always worth a look.

Those are looking pretty nice. I read some reviews and a few of them seem pretty tight for size. Really clean and Apple-esque, though. That Lian Li one is definitely like the cheese grater. Thx!
