Can't get PC to boot from USB thumb drive

Had the same issue, that's what helped me, hope it helps you:

The GA forum tips seem to recommend enabling "Legacy USB devices" in the BIOS.

I used the LiLi USB Creator to create my bootable USB drive downloadable from here:

http://www.linuxliveusb.com/

There are some options available in it -

I picked my USB drive

I downloaded the Ubuntu 13.04 ISO as my source.

I set my persistence to 4090 MB (the max I could get).

I also selected all the step 4 check boxes

Then hit create. That worked for me.

I used LiLi and Ubuntu 13.04 ISO as well. Strange.

OK, I got the HP Z210 to boot from a UniBeast installer (I never did get the Ubuntu USB boot to work). With the UniBeast boot, I have to use the flags "PCIRootUID=1" and "GraphicsEnabler=no" for it to boot up to the installer, I'll figure that out later. But the bigger problem is that Disk Utility in the installer cannot see any SATA drives in the system. The BIOS is configured to AHCI/RAID (that and IDE are the only options). I attached an external USB drive and Disk Utility can see that.

The motherboard is based on a C206 Cougar Point chipset, which should be supported, right? It's just another Sandy Bridge chipset as far as I know. I can't think of anything else to try - any ideas?

This thread is about the Z210 so there may be some differences. Does your motherboard have UEFI ?
You can hit the F10 key on booting up to find out. If you have BIOS ver. 01.21 Rev. A then you are on the newest available. If not then flash the BIOS to that:
http://h20565.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/...id=4100535&swItemId=wk_124158_1&swEnvOid=4059

Once updated, see if you have any UEFI booting options when the USB is installed.

If so then set your UEFI settings the same as in this post:

Then use the two boot flags: PCIRootUID=1 and GraphicsEnabler=No

This is only if you have UEFI and not Legacy BIOS.

If you still have just Legacy BIOS then do the standard Chimera / Multibeast install.
