Hi All,

I am about to build a new hackintosh machine. It will be used for work daily on Big Sur, but dual boot in Windows for gaming. I am planning to get i9-10900K CPU, RX 6800XT GPU and Samsung CRG9 monitor (5K/120Hz). Since there is no support for RX6800XT yet, I was thinking to have the RX GPU disabled under MacOS for now, and hoping the UHD630 in the processor can drive that monitor until AMD drivers are released. Would that work, or don't bother?

Thanks in advance.

This is what Ark.Intel.com have to say about the UHD 630 IGPU in the i9-10900K CPU.

So I would say the answer is no. The UHD 630 IGPU can not run a 5K display at 120Hz. None of the connectors from the UHD 630 can provide 5120 × 2880 or 5120 x 1440 @120Hz.

You need to wait for Apple to release system that uses an RX6000-series card before you can think about getting 5K resolution on your future-build. You may have to settle for 4096 x 2304 @ 60Hz using DisplayPort connection, or rather 4096 x 1440 @60Hz as that is the maximum vertical height of the screen you are proposing to use.

Thank you for the detailed answer, really appreciate it!

It was a wishful thinking, but thought I'd ask. I do have RX580 right now that I can use in the meantime, but was trying to leave the old machine as is. Decisions, decisions :)
