Can i update to Sierra without any issues from Yosemite?

Make sure you've not got any Install Applications in the Application folder already.

Check to see that your ethernet connection is en0 for the App Store. Sorry I didn't see the system definition, I put 2 and 2 together and came up with 5. You can use DPCI Manager to check your ethernet here https://sourceforge.net/projects/dpcimanager/

what else would be the matter?

EDIT: I just found out i can download any free app from the app store, so nothing's wrong there. i just can't download sierra.

Your serial number is in the format of a MacPro3,1 and I suspect that is what is causing your problem with the download.
