Can I disable bluetooth?

I have successfully installed OS X Mavericks on a Lenovo X220. Bluetooth is on, and in the Bluetooth settings, the 'Turn Bluetooth Off' button is greyed out. I would rather not leave this on if I am not using it, and it also shows my machine is in discoverable mode.

Thank you in advance for any help or thoughts.

You would need BT hardware that is compatible with that feature. Atheros AR3011 (is that yours) is not.
