For the keyboard part most anything will work, just try to get one with the command key in the right place. On the topic of mice, however, I would suggest the Logitech G500. Setup whatever macros you want in Windows, right them to the mouse's memory, and those macros will work in OS X. This works because I'm using it right now.

That's an interesting fact. I did not know that. I'm going to look more into that mouse. Is there any way to set up those macros without booting windows?

It would seem you know a lot more than nothing

Any Logitech gaming mouse should be able to use this method, but I'm only able to vouch for the G500. This method ONLY works if you use Macros (i.e. assign keyboard shortcuts to mouse buttons, like CMD+W or CMD+H).

Unfortunately, you must have access to a windows machine to set it up, but once you finalize your macros and write them to the onboard memory, it's all flowers and rainbows. If you want to edit the macros, you'll have to go to the same windows machine you used to set it up, assuming you haven't uninstalled SetPoint. If you have, you'll have to start from scratch).

I just have a lot of experience tinkering with settings :) .

That's very helpful. Thanks. I was trying to find something that allowed you to edit that. It's of course harder to find on OS X. I have too many computers and I tried putting windows on all of them and ran out my license (gotta love Microsoft) and I'm not paying over $100 for another one, so at the moment it's an unregistered version. Because of that I've gotten used to not having it on my main comp and just cringe when I need it.

so when I install Mountain Lion when it releases, will I have to download any patches or anything? or will everything work out of the box?

You'll follow this guide:
http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com/2011/10/ ... using.html

Multibeast includes all the kexts you'll need just make sure you find your DSDT from the database. Even though you want ML I believe you'll have to get lion first and then upgrade to ML.

EDIT: And you may need bridgehelper depending on when you do this build. If it's after ML has been released you may not need it. Just keep checking on here for updates on that.

the gpu that I'm planning on getting isn't compatible with Lion....only ML. what are my options then?

Honestly, I wouldn't buy that mobo.. Newegg just put it up for 99.99 and read the reviews on it. I'd get a better board and have someone on here help with a DSDT or just run it easy beast.

also... I'm probably going to ditch the gtx680 GPU for a 670... does anyone know which version of the 670 I should get?

I plan on getting something in the same vein, but it seems the only other (sensible) options are the Z77-UD5H (too expensive for some) or the lower-tier H77-DS3H. Opinions?
