i have built two hacks over the last three years and both are running fine, however I need the most power possible for 3D animation and rendering.

I don’t know much about the specs, other than to max out ram, so with that being said, what should I look for to ensure the fastest render time possible?

You could build an 8 or 10 core "iMac Pro" CustoMac for more rendering speed and 3D animation work.

You have already done a few builds but this will be a lot more complicated.

I'm not seeing those grades of CPU in the list. Is this something that would be a trail and error type of thing? Should I look for certain attributes of CPU that can handle that type of load? Here are my top three:
https://www.cpu-monkey.com/en/cpu-amd_ryzen_threadripper_2990wx-886
https://www.cpu-monkey.com/en/cpu-intel_xeon_platinum_8180m-819

The Skylake Core i9 processors are not in the buyer's guide. Use the links in that guide on the KGP iMac Pro itself. Of course, you can't use an AMD threadripper on an Intel X299 motherboard.

Thank you trs96. I'm in arena that I don't know much about.
Direct link to the 18 core i9 Extreme CPU I don't think that Xeons would work at all with this guide so go with the same 7980XE that KGP uses in the guide. Should be able to get the job done.

You will also need to spend a good amount on a liquid cooling system to cool this.

Also get the Sapphire Nitro + Vega 64 so that graphics will work properly. No need to install any drivers from Nvidia.

I forgot to tell you thank you for your reply. I'm in the process now of ordering those parts. Would you recommend using the CustoMac Pro's latest build suggestions for the other parts?

Follow the parts recommendations in the kgp guide for his version of the iMac Pro. Those have been tested with that specific motherboard.
