Hello, i'm SERIOUSLY planning to buy all components and to set up a customac pro...i need more speed because i'm a musician and i need fast processor and with strong capabilities to support all my DAW and presets.
I'm following carefully guides and built customac here, but i still didnt find any similar to the customac i need.
I'm planing to buy this configuration, following the site hardware choice:
CPU Intel Xeon E5 2690, motherboad Gigabyte GA-X79S-UP5, 32gb of Corsair Vengeance DDR3 memory, a low cost graphic card (i don't need a performant one!)
Anyone has a similar configuration with Lion istalled? Anyone has got problems installing such components?
Please help me before buying those components. Thanks

There is a few builds using this motherboard, most of which also use the i7 3930K CPU.

If you copy and paste the motherboard model or CPU model into the search facility above your name at the top of the page you will find some worthwhile threads that you can glean some info from and ask build questions.

Here is one using the same motherboard : http://www.tonymacx86.com/user-buil...a-x79s-up5-x79-c606-i7-3930k-32gb-gtx670.html

Another handy part of the forum for music creators is here : http://www.tonymacx86.com/music/

These builds require you to download the operating system from the App Store, so it would be Mountain Lion rather than Lion that you would be using. Please note that if your iMac has restore discs that are Lion, then these are not suitable and do not work, The complete operating system must be downloaded - restore discs are not suitable.

Xeon processors are supplied with out cooling heat sinks or fans, you can chose something suitable for your build from aftermarket suppliers and brands for your socket type.

The board is working in multiple builds, so you are safe with that. The CPU should work too, but you should consider a water cooler for that hot one ;)

Of course i will...i didn't write about case and water cooler because my "doubts" are only about proc, memory and mobo compatibility.

Thanks Adrian, i check your link...i think i need to "study" a lot before buying and assembling this kind of build, and of course i will post my progress and my requests for help :D

Preparation is key in any build, not just for the parts but having a reasonable understanding of how to make it work, which MultiBeast setting to use and why. I found it important on my simple little computer and I have learned a lot from the process. It will be more important for you to take notes of settings used and the reasons why you chose them. A proper backup plan should be implemented, not just for your data but also for your main Apps. If anything goes south and your main drive fails (as can happen with any computer) it is important to be able to get back up and running quickly and easily.

Good luck

Adrian, i read all the content in the argument you paste me, : (NEW) (SUCCESS) Dingleberry's Content Creator Build | GA-X79S-UP5 X79/C606 | i7-3930k | 32gb | GTX670 and the user made a build with same mainboard i want to buy...only the processor (and video card) is different. I will ask in that thread is someone did the same configuration with a Xeon E5 2690 instead of an i7...i think a different processor would not cause problems if the mobo ram etc are tested.....better...i hope!

If you use the search facility then you will find other builds, there are people who have used two of these processors on some motherboards. The processor works and the motherboard works, there should be no problem in using both together even if someone has not yet done so. It might be worth e-mailing Gigabyte for their thoughts on compatibility.

Here is the Gigabyte page for this motherboard : http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4287#sp

Gigabyte CPU support page : http://www.gigabyte.com/support-downloads/cpu-support-popup.aspx?pid=4287

It might be that Gigabyte haven't updated the page or there might be a good reason why the 2680 is listed but not the 2690.
