Hi! I'm looking for information on how to get the brightness controls working on my 8470P with AMD 7570M graphics. I've been trying to piece together info from these three repositories but haven't figured it out yet:

* https://github.com/RehabMan/HP-ProBook-4x30s-DSDT-Patch.git - This is the currently supported repo but doesn't support the 8470P with the AMD GPU. I tried a "vanilla" install following the directions and it would not make it to the login screen.

* https://bitbucket.org/dhnguyenit/hp-probook-installer-clover-edition.git - This repo is no longer supported but can sometimes be used for reference, although the information is scattered across tons of files in tons of directories. I tried a "vanilla" install of this repo as well and encountered the same problem: it wouldn't make it to the login screen.

* https://github.com/Memphiz/HP-ProBook-4x30s-DSDT-Patch.git - This repo has an unmerged pull request with some info regarding my configuration but is also not supported. I was able to use this repo to get the GPU functioning correctly, but I don't believe there are any changes in this repo that specifically address the issue with the backlight controls. I couldn't find any directions regarding backlight controls for my hardware config.

From what I gather in these posts, it is possible to get the backlight working with DSDT patches:

https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/...backlight-control.152659/page-67#post-1198634

Did I overlook the info needed to make DSDT patches for backlight controls?
Is it possible to get this working with CLOVER patches instead of DSDT?

Any guidance is greatly appreciated.

Note: I'm specifically using Yosemite because it's the last MacOS version that will sleep/wake correctly with the AMD GPUs.

Thanks!

I would use most of the content from my hotpatch guide. That will take care of audio, battery, CPU PM, keyboard, trackpad, etc.
Then look at the ProBook installer source for clues on the special settings needed in config.plist for your Radeon device.

Thank you for the advice. I'll give it a try this weekend and report the results here.

Any luck? I have a HP 8470p with a dedicated AMD HD7650M, and used the Memphiz repo(patching the Devices section of the config.plist). I also have working graphics, but the display in SysPrefs don't show the brightness bar. I did download an application called "brightness slider" that provides a workaround. I'm using High Sierra and sleep seems to work fine.

ETA: It seems that most of the solutions tend to focus on the integrated graphics configuration and I'm not sure how applicable they are to dedicated AMD GPU configurations.

I was able to mostly get it to work by piecing together bits and pieces of configs. It never was perfect though. It was a nightmare and I ultimately decided to buy another motherboard from eBay with only the Intel GPU and swapped that in. It worked for a while but then at some point it got stuck in a reboot cycle because of an update. Ultimately, I decided it wasn't worth my time and went back to using Linux.

So in summary: It IS possible to get the brightness working, but you have to custom modify and hack around with the scripts and it's a pain. At this point, I'll wait a year or two to buy another macbook instead of dealing with this any more.

When I was on yosemite i used ACPIBacklight.kext and use config.plist setting or add Brightness fix DSDT patch from @RehabMan's repo as a start should have it working to some degree. the alternative fix is the kext, config.plist/dsdt patch, bergdesign brightness app which is needed if you run sierra+
