Background & General Information

This is a quite powerful hackintosh, comparable to 2013/2014 cylindrical MacPros. I use it for heavy post production mainly 2K-4K video works, DaVinci Resolve Studio color grading & stuffs.

I built this system 2 years ago @ 10.10.x, now I fresh-install it to 10.12.5. After about 4 days tinkering, I finally got it up running very good - no problem noticed so far.

I overclocked the CPU to ~ 4.6GHz, runs well using core multipler settings: 46-46-45-45, all other settings at defaults AUTO. RAM OC @1600MHz voltage @1.55v.

Novabench results:

What Works and What Doesn't Work
  • CPU, GTX980Ti all WORKS
  • Internal ALC Audio - WORKS
  • HDMI Audio via HDMI on GTX980 - WORKS
  • Internal Ethernet - WORKS
  • Internal USB 2 & 3 - WORKS
  • Orico USB 3 - WORKS
  • Sleep & Wake - WORKS
  • SSD Trim - WORKS
  • TPLink Wifi - WORKS
  • Apple Store - WORKS
  • Blackmagic Design Mini Monitor - WORKS
  • Intel Internal GPU - not tested - disabled in BIOS
  • iMessage - not tested

Installation of OS X

1. Make Sierra installer usb using Unibeast 7.1.1 - pick UEFI only
Plenty of guides in the forum, follow them but choose UEFI only, I use Sierra 10.12.5 from App Store.

While creating the USB installer, you can download these files:

2. Bios Settings:
  • Use BIOS version F10
  • Reset to Optimised Defaults
  • VT-d: enabled
  • Intel Virtualisation Technology: enabled
  • Windows 8: yes
  • CSM: never
  • XHCI: Smart Auto!!
  • Intel Graphics: disabled
  • Legacy Usb: enabled
  • XHCI & EHCI Handoff: enabled
  • Serial: disabled
  • Wake On Lan: disabled
Do not overclock while installing Sierra - once done installing, you may overclock as you wish.
Boot the PC, press F12 to enter boot menu, choose the USB installer.
After choosing your language, open Disk Utility from the top menu bar, erase the SSD to GUID HFS+ Journaled, name it like: 'Sierra SSD'.
After done erase/format SSD, quit Disk Utility then continue to install Sierra to the SSD, after about 10-20 minutes, PC will restart.
Press F12 again to choose USB installer, then in Clover boot menu choose Sierra SSD, Sierra login screen comes!!
Login with your password and now let's install Clover bootloader & the drivers!

3. Multibeast:
  • I use Multibeast Sierra v9.1.0
  • Pick UEFI
  • Pick SMBIOS iMac15,1
Here's the ss:
full

That's it for Multibeast! Install it, then continue below...

4. Clover Steps:

Run Clover installer to update clover, choose Customize > Install RC Scripts on target, also tick Drivers64UEFI>emuvariableuefi-64, then click install.

Run Clover Configurator,
If EFI drive is not yet mounted, mount it:
choose Mount EFI, click Mount Partition (Sierra SSD drive), click Open Partition.

In the just-mounted EFI drive, open the config.plist inside the 'Clover' folder.

Do the following settings for the config.plist in Clover Configurator:
  • Graphics > Inject Intel: disable
  • Boot > nvda_drv=1
  • System Parameters > Inject Kexts: Yes
  • System Parameters > nVidiaWeb: enable
Save the config.plist.

You gotta put these files (the ones you downloaded from STEP 1 above) in /EFI/Clover/kext/10.12:
  • Lilu.kext
  • NvidiaGraphicsFixup.kext
  • VoodooHDA.kext
  • IntelMausiEthernet.kext
Delete this file in Sierra SSD/Library/Extensions:
  • FakeSMC.kext
And then install these kexts from files you downloaded above:
  • All the FakeSMC + sensors .kext, excluding the GPU sensor kext. (use Kextbeast to install them into L/E)
Install HWmonitor.app to Applications folder.
Install nVidia Web driver, don't restart.

In terminal type:

“sudo trimforce enable” (without quotes)
enter your password and choose yes. (Restarts automatically)

That's it! All done! You can install other drivers such as Blackmagic Decklink drivers, CUDA, run HWmonitor, etc. Orico USB 3.0 card works perfectly OOB.

Thank you Bory27. This is the most precise instruction list yet that I've seen. Two questions. There is an item, SSDT_NVMe-Pcc.aml. Where is that file located? I can't seem to find it. Also, when you mention newer USBinjectAll.kxt, where would that file be? When I restated to see if it would boot from my SSD, instead of the flash drive, all I get is a blank screen now. Trying to isolate what it is. P.S. I haven't installed my graphics card yet (Nvidia GTX1080Ti. This is for a Resolve system) Thank you in advance...

Hi Bory! Thank you so much for thist post! This helped me so much. I have similar HW, just different graphic card - GTX 760. Can I use nVidia Web Driver for this card as well? The card is not listed. Can I use CUDA drivers without the nVidia Web Driver? Thank you very much!

In this board i dont use ssdt_nvme.aml
Where in the guide u saw ssdt-nvme.aml?

Usbinjectall.kext also is not in my guide.. I think you're refering to a different mobo guide.

U can use gtx760 no problem.
I think cuda needs web driver.

That's what I was wondering... (lol)
Thanks for responding. Those files were on your other thread that was deleted.
I can send you a shot of the part of build where it was in. My friend hadn't refreshed
his computer, so he still had that thread. By the way, are you feeding an external monitor
for Resolve. What Blackmagic card did you go with? I have the old Decklink card.
Thanks again.

Yes, I'm using Decklink Mini Monitor

bory27, your Z17x-UD3 build description has been restored. It was mistakenly removed from view because of it's similarity to this build description, and, thus, thought to be a duplicate.

https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/...0ti-nvme-sierra-10-12-5-fresh-install.229746/

Let me know which of the above posts need to be moved to your Z170X-UD3 build description thread.

Again, I apologize for the inconvenience.
Hi Stork master, thank you for restoring it. I don't think any post needs to be moved.

Any of u guys that have question, please just reask in that restored thread, thank you all.
