I have a consistent problem.
The first time I boot up my system, it hangs on the blue screen. Every time.
Then I hard reboot (hold down power) and it boots fine.

This happens every time, not a fluke. any idea why?

I am Snow Leopard 10.6.8 only, specs are in my sig. thanks!

I have the exact same problem! I am searching for a solution right now.

Which screen is the blue screen you're referring to?

Does it happen if you do a restart from within OS X?

the one you see right before your desktop loads. It happens so fast that you may not notice it normally. But it hangs there on first boot after a shutdown.

I change between monitors/inputs often and I have this problem. I simply plug and unplug the cable that is going to the monitor I am about to use, and it refreshes.

Otherwise I don't have an answer for you, sorry.

I am having this same issue with the spec listed below. My system will eventually boot without me doing anything after about 10 min. That is pretty inconvenient tho.

I narrowed the problem down to my firewire card. Syba sy-pex30011. When I removed it, the problem went away.
