Hi,

My system was working really well up to the last two updates, both of which basically broke my system, with bad consequences.

My USB ports were not working properly, it would drop or not recognize certain hard drives. At some point it crashed really bad and somehow two hard drives became user password protected, the system randomly freezes, finally there are now two boot issues as well.

I have another post where I am receiving help fixing the USB ports, and so far I have been able to fix a couple and still need a couple more to finish in order to solve that problem completely.

The locked hard drives are a big problem, all my media was there and now I can't access any of it. Any suggestions on how to unlock password protected HDDs is welcome.

The freezing, I am hoping is USB related, as well as the constant dropping or not recognizing of HDDs. I hope to have the USB issues solved over the weekend. And will bump this post when I have news.

But now I also have two boot issues I did not have before, one occurs on normal cold boot to OC I get the following, that is after the compouter has been down for some time, say overnight, I am now getting these messages.

IMG_4558.JPG

Which are annoying, unsettling, but let me keep going to the OC menu and eventually boot to Big Sur. I have noticed that if I reboot from Big Sur it goes away and only comes back when the system hangs up / freezes, or is cold booted from being down for a while.

The other issue I have when booting is when I go from open core to Ubuntu, I get the following messages:

IMG_4571.PNG

I honestly have no idea why this happens, I had no issue sprior to the last Big Sur updates, I have always used the latest OC version, on 0.6.9 now. Ubuntu does boot and windows as well. Windows seems to have no issues at all booting, and Ubuntu just the above. Once in the other OSs all works fine.

I think it might not be properly directing to the Ubuntu EFI and seems to be looking for it, I will try and look for a fix to this, but suggestions are welcome.

These last updates were simply disastrous for me, I used to use this system as a daily driver but it is now broken. Thankfully I was migrating most things to Ubuntu, so when the hang ups get annoying I am just plain using Ubuntu for most things.

Nevertheless in the spirit of Hackintoshing I really want to fix this install and would very appreciate any help or guidance.

Thanks

Manuel

I hate bumping my own posts. But considering no one has been able to help I am posting more information to see if I can get any.

BTW my system is as follows:

Motherboard : Supermicro X10SAE
CPU : Xeon E3-1246 V3
GPU : RX560
RAM : 32 Gb
Drive : 1Tb SSD

I have been unable to fix the boot warning problem, but I think it will go away when I fix the crash problem.

I had never used the console before and now am able to see what is crashing my computer it is wakeups.

First wakeups crashes where it says is receiving 45,000+ wakeups in 147 seconds, when the limit is 150 in 300s. The culprits seems to be Pycharm and Firefox.

I also have crashes originating from mdsync, but the reason is 90 seconds cpu time over 130 seconds (69% cpu average), exceeding limit of 50% over 100 seconds.

Here is the log for the last crash:

I have gone, once more through every BIOS setting recommended in Dortania, and through the Haswell guide, I do have a Xeon though, no iGPU and have accounted for that per the guides. I honestly don't know what else to tweak in order to have a stable setup. As I said before, it used to work but after the last two updates it is not stable.

Once again any suggestions are very welcome.

Thanks

Manolo

the top image can be easily solved by editing your config.plist and making the changes as required, compare your config.plist with the sample.plist from opencore download and then run ocvalidate on your config.plist to make sure no errors are present

your second image looks like a hard drive failure

I managed to map all my ports, except ports 1 and 2. No matter what I do they never turn on, don't need them fortunately, as I have enough ports for now. But as my system seems to be more stable now, I don't want to push my luck too much. To be honest, what seems to have made my system stable, amazingly was to reinstall office. I have no idea what could have happened that made it not work properly, but checking the console I founf a program, can't really recall the name, but I simply erased it, after googling it though. So after that I opened a word document and the whole background was black, could see no letters. So I reinstalled office and it's been working for almost 18 hours straight no crashes so far, and I'm pushing it. Hopefully it'll stay that way. I upgraded to OC 0.6.9 in order to try and solve the issue. You should check the console, it shows what apps are crashing and why.
From what I figured out it was a background program SMBIL or somethiing similar that was doing this, as it was listed in the crash reports. As I said I deleted it, and office strted working funny, reinstalled it and all is now working .... so far.
If it stays stable, the next missing bit is to recover my locked drives somehow. I had all my plex files in one of them, the other one, was just a transfer drive, form one pc to another. But I really want my plex stuff back !!!!

I really think you should have a long hard look at the console, it should give you an idea of what is happening, then search here or google or post !!!!

The top image bit goes away once it boots properly and is restarted, and is now not showing up on cold boot. Somehow this system seems a bit more stable.

As to hard drive failure, I think it is not likely as all drives boot properly on their own, and the second image shows up only on linux boot. I will try fiddling around with the linux boot, see if it goes away, but all drives are working properly. So far.

I had another couple of freezing event. And it's again back to being more frequent, it had been fine for quite some time. So this time it's Pychram, I contacted the Jetbrains forum to see if they any clue as to what might be going on. I might just uninstall and install again see if that helps. Office is now working properly.
