I was having trouble with PHOTOS hanging when trying to encode video uploaded from my DSLR. The following Kexts and changes to my config.plist fixed my problem. It also seriously enhanced my bruce test to 15 secs and h264 export times. Basically it allows the RX580 card to work with the internal graphics on the mother board

I installed the following kexts to EFI/CLOVER/kexts/Other in my EFI :
Shiki, Lilu, IntelGraphicsFixup, Whatevergreen
from Rehabman's FAKEPCIID:
FakePCIID.kext and FakePCIID_Intel_HD_Graphics.kext

I made the following changes to config.plist in clover:

In System Parameters verify Inject Kexts is set to Yes

In Boot page add Custom Flags:
shikigva=4
-rad4200
click -disablegfxfirmware

In Devices tab:

Set INTELGFX box to 0x59128086
Set ig-platform-id to 0x59120003

In Acip tab: under DSDT patches (order is important)

change HECI to IMEI: find 48454349 Replace 494d4549
change GFX0 to IGPU: find 47465830 replace 49475055
change PEPG to GFX0: find 50454750 replace 47465830

Bios changes:
Integrated Graphics: Enabled
DVMT Pre-Allocated: 128M
Initial Display Output: PCIe 1

I've done that already, somehow my h264 export time still slow. I see a lot of FPS drop when playing some games like Fortnite, for example. I think it should run smooth with this config, shouldn't it?

I will test fortnight and let you know if that is working for me. My son is an addict and I make him boot up windows to play because it was so bad in Macos, now that everything is working I will try it again. Sorry your having issues. Just thinking out loud, did you apply this fix prior to changing to iMac19.1, I'm on 18.3

Just tried this and it didn't work on my machine. All I got was a prohibited symbol at startup. I'm using an "iMac19.1" definition.

I just tested Fortnite. Still does not work right very jumpy.

Make sure that you disable System Preferences - Accessibility - Display - Shake mouse pointer to locate.

Thank you that helped. The game was playable. Still get better performance when running on windows. That's why we hack, best of both worlds!!!

I'm using the fix for the "iMac19.1" definition.

Make sure that you disable System Preferences - Accessibility - Display - Shake mouse pointer to locate.

Thank you so much for this, it was driving me nuts. The console fills with floods of GPURestarts and kernel errors when it freezes. Only the mouse can move. Sometimes it comes back after a few seconds, sometimes never. It even happens without Photos open occasionally. But photos really consistently triggers it when it needs to convert media.

Not a single GPU restart since, and Photos is open... the system is no longer freezing.

Only problem might be that now MacX Converter shows hardware accel: No.
