Hey guys,

I'm looking to build a new pc and am looking at Asus boards to pair with an i7-6700k. Will either be going ATX of MATX and have pretty much narrowed it down to the Z270g, z270f, z170 pro gaming/aura, or maximus viii hero boards. I'm looking for the board that is going to involve the least amount of tinkering with after installation to get running as well as possible. Has anyone had any success with any of these boards or can offer any suggestions?

Thanks very much :)

We'll only really know the answer once these are tested with High Sierra, which will have Kaby Lake support. You must be a developer to have access to it right now. Public beta available in early July. You'll want to use a Z170 board with a 6700K CPU and a Z270 with an I7-7700K CPU. Better than the mix and match approach IMO. If I were building new right now I'd opt for a Kaby lake CPU and Z270 motherboard. Prices are very similar, why not get the latest hardware ?

I have been using an Asus Maximus VIII Gene Z170 for quite a while now. At this point, I don't think much tinkering will required to get it fully functional anymore. I've found it to be very reliable and stable.

Yes, from all that I've read, the newest iMacs are using Z170 with Kaby Lake CPUs.

In step 11 it's written that the chipset in iMAC 2017 is INTEL SR2C9 (INTEL Z170), this is true ?
Maybe the best configuration for Kaby Lake processors is mobo z170 + I7 7700K?
If you have a choice of either Z270 or Z170 the main reason to opt for the Z270 is the extra 4 PCI-E lanes. This is primarily important if you want multiple M.2 drives in your build. If not it's ok to go with Z170.

The Z270 and Z170 chipsets have no differences other than what I've posted in #7. Yes, they will be compatible.
