Best GPU for High Sierra

I have a few questions regarding the NVIDIA GPU's on High Sierra, and their performance.

If I wanted to get the fastest GPU acceleration possible on a Hackintosh, would I want to go the NVIDIA route for my build? I know that a lot of the 10 series graphics card are supported on High Sierra, and that NVIDIA did indeed create a web driver for these cards. I have used my GTX 1080 on a Hackintosh build before, and I would say the performance was pretty good. Here's where the majority of my questions come in regarding these cards.

  • I know this may seem silly, but I love the fact of gaming on a Mac. I just love how it's different that Windows, and I have a knack for things like this. If I wanted the best performance out of card, would I want to use a NVIDIA card? AFAIK, the new AMD cards aren't supported on any version of MacOS, and I don't know how often their drivers will be updated or optimized anyway.
  • Are the web drivers for the 10 series graphics card very old or outdated? They seemed to work well with my old build, but I wondering if this would effect my 3D graphics performance. I think one of the things I was worried about is using a driver that isn't optimized anymore, therefore affecting performance. It could possibly get to the point where you have a better card than any of the AMD options, but the overheard due to lack of driver updates and optimization could put you under other options when it comes to 3D performance.
  • Lastly, does the nature of using Hackintosh slow down graphics performance very much, compared to an actual mac? I'm curious how much overhead there would be.
Thanks!

The GTX 1080 is only supported up to High Sierra with the Nvidia drivers, and is not supported by MacOS Mojave and later.

Are you going to restrict yourself to High Sierra? Or will you consider (or be forced) upgrading to a newer version of MacOS (now or in the future)?

By "the new AMD cards", which cards are you referring to? If you are referring to the RX 5x00 series, then they are supported on MacOS Catalina 10.15.2 and later, and your assertion that they "aren't supported on any version of MacOS" is simply wrong.

Do not expect the web drivers to be updated in any way (even for High Sierra except for compatibility issues). Nvidia has had almost two years since the release of Mojave and refuses to release web drivers to support Mojave and Catalina. So it is quite obvious to me that no more support for Nvidia cards can be expected from Nvidia in MacOS.

If you are going to continue to use MacOS, I believe a supported AMD card (like the RX 580 or RX 5700 XT depending on what version of MacOS you use) will be the better choice as they are supported by native drivers in MacOS going forward.

Thank you for replying to my post.

My knowledge on the newer AMD cards were purely based on the little bit of research I did. After posting, I remembered that Apple had released the Mac Pro and I'm sure they would want the RX 5x00 series to work on it.

real life example
i installed a hackintosh with Sierra 2 years ago. Today i cannot update teamviewer, viber and safari does not work too. More apps to follow for sure. You want to be in that situation in autumn 2020 when there will be new MacOS released?
