I'm building a hack (other thread) to run specifically Final Cut Pro X 10.1 under OS X v10.9.1 Mavericks of course.

Let me explain: from what i'm reading so far, most graphic cards, even when they work OOB without much of a hassle (Nvida / AMD), they usually under perform in OpenCL apps, either because they're tested on older OS X iterations, or not tested in fcpx 10.1 at all. So what I'm learning is not usually up to date.

I want to play it safe, and this are my preferences in order of importance:

1. Stability (100%)
2. Performance
3. Price

Based on that, the following is my selection from the Apple's "Final Cut Pro X, Motion 5, Compressor 4" OpenCL compatibility list under Mavericks. You can check the full list here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4664

This are the graphic cards available in Apple computers supporting OpenCL in OS X Mavericks:

NVIDIA
GeforceGTX 680
Quadro FX 4000
Quadro FX 5000

ATI
Radeon HD 4670
Radeon HD 4850
Radeon HD 4870
Radeon HD 5670
Radeon HD 5750
Radeon HD 5770
Radeon HD 5870

This are the aftermarket graphic cards supporting OpenCL in OS X Mavericks:

NVIDIA
GeforceGTX 680 (this one puzzles me because I've read a lot of problems anyways)

ATI
Radeon HD 7950

So this is what I found ready to buy (I listen to alternatives).

1. Sapphire HD 7950 3GB GDDR5 Mac Edition Graphics Card
SAP100352MAC
$467.99

2. EVGA GeForce GTX 680 Mac Edition Graphics Card for Apple Mac Pro
EVG02GP43682
$619.00

3. ATI Radeon HD 5870 Graphics Upgrade Kit for Mac Pro 2009 and later models
APL6615719
$494.99

In any case... Which Graphic Card should I buy if money (let's pretend) is not a constrain? Any experience using FCPX 10.1? I assume that ATI is now better suited for the job, but I may be wrong.

Also, I know this is old as computers, that it's known that "mac editions" works the same as "pc editions", but, since the problems with OpenCL are on the very edge of stability, do you think it will bring a benefit? Remember, money is not an issue... haha.

Thanks as always!

Hello,

Its been apparently a while since you opened this tread but I'd like to ask you which graphics card did you go with for FCPX 10.1 performance?

I just recently purchased GTX 770 but not doing well..

Thank you!
