Benefit of Mavericks

Hello,

I wonder if there are any benefits in performance compared to Mountain Lion. Obviously features which save battery are not very interesting for Desktop Computers, so are there any others which make the system more responsive. The only one I have found is compressed memory (but I am already having 16GB), but I am not even sure about it.

I like the new safari and the tags as well. Also I am getting the new iPad, so there might be better compatibility.


Do you know any features that might be more worth upgrading from Mountain Lion? My PC is supposed for music production, but I also use it for other work.
Or do you notice a performance improvement?

You may wish to try a new installation on a second HDD or SSD. It would be easy to clone your installation across to a second disk, install Mavericks and see how things work out. If you have problems, then you still have a working installation. Use Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper. Remember to apply Chimera option from MultiBeast to your freshly cloned drive to allow you to boot into it

That's standard for any new version, not just Mavericks, or the Mac for that matter. It's not uncommon to see single application, purpose built recording systems still using Leopard and an older version of Pro Tools. Though they've been better than they have in the past Avid is still painfully slow to certify new PT versions for the current OS versions. Those that are using Apple apps are generally safe though plug ins and virtual instruments could have issues. Best bet is to wait until the bugs are sorted. We've been doing that since DAWs were first introduced.

@baller1308 Yes, multi monitor sounds fine! But my 27" is enough right now.

@beelzebubba Yup, things will sort out probably in a couple of weeks or months. But the new features don't seem to be that significant to me (or most people in music).. so it does not matter much.
