Does your laptop have a physical wifi power on/off button?

Not a physical one but you can do it via the keyboard. However, I've tried this already

Then you will need to tape two pins on the connector of the card to prevent it from powering off. There's a guide for that but I can't remember where I read it.

Yes. That's what you need to do.
So I've had a few successful boots however now it won't boot at all and when running it via verbose mode it always hangs on a different message. Just taken the card out and it boots perfectly. Any ideas?

Try rebuilding kext cache. In Terminal:
sudo touch /System/Library/Extensions && sudo kextcahe -u /
Also, a screenshot from the hang would be useful.

So I've rebuilt the cache and now it consistently hangs in the same place.
