It's working; see Post #1/Before you begin/1. macOS does not provide ....
Yes, I'm aware that there won't be an actual volume control and that I have to adjust the volume on the playback device itself. The problem remains that there is no actual sound. Could it be a bad motherboard? I'll try another HDMI cable and try another monitor just to rule out other hardware defects.

What is the attached HDMI device?
SON OF A BIAATCH!

I took my Hackintosh upstairs, plugged it into my other monitor, a Dell U3415W and audio is there! But, on the Samsung UE590 that I was using 5 minutes ago, NOTHING. I don't believe it!

UPDATE: Plugged back into the samsung using the HDMI cable from upstairs and using the 2nd HDMI port on the samsung. No sound!

I had bought this monitor just for my Hackintoshing, so this is the first time I've used it. turns out the stupid thing doesn't have built in speakers! Who makes a monitor w/o built in speakers? I didn't realize this was common, but I guess its REALLY common. Never really thought to check on that detail before buying. Fortunately, it was bought from Costco. Will bring it back when I get a chance. Unbelievable! So sorry to have wasted your time, toleda.

I'll probably just get another Dell3415W. Its been pretty awesome, and it has freaking speakers.

UPDATE 2: I'm still pissed at the all the time I wasted and for wasting toleda's time all because of a stupid speaker-less monitor.
