For months now, my audio interface (Apogee Duet 2, USB-powered) seemingly randomly cuts out, causing my speakers to pop loudly, then power cycles indefinitely.

These drop-outs are not obviously tied to any activity on my Mac--it could happen when I'm checking email on Chrome, using Pro Tools, on Steam, or even if the computer is totally idle.

Tonight the problem reoccured at 8:35 PM, and I went to the Logs section of System Information to try to grab any relevant entries. Under Apple System Log (ASL) Messages, the following entries were from 8:35, when the audio interface's drop-out and power cycling began:

Sep 25, 2018, 8:31:55 PM cloudd[407]: notify name "com.apple.cloudkit.pcs.flushCaches" has been registered 20 times - this may be a leak
Sep 25, 2018, 8:31:55 PM com.apple.xpc.launchd[1]: Endpoint has been activated through legacy launch(3) APIs. Please switch to XPC or bootstrap_check_in(): com.apple.quicklook

Sep 25, 2018, 8:35:09 PM com.apple.xpc.launchd[1]: Unknown key for integer: _DirtyJetsamMemoryLimit

Under Power Management logs, it showed:

Do these log entries point to any potential source of this audio interface power cycling problem?

I have this same exact problem, and it's driving me insane!

I've been unable to use this thing for months and have it run stable.

I've randomly been trying everything I can think of and or find to resolve it and so far it doesn't seem i'm any farther ahead.

Oh man, I feel your pain.

I'm determined to figure this out (or shell out for an RME Babyface Pro), and if I do, I'lll let you know the solution!

Are you using a flashed graphics card from MacVidCards by any chance? Any entries that pop up in the logs for you (power management for the apple systems log or other logs) that seem to coincide with the occurrence of the Duet's power cycling?

I know in the past some of the builds had USB issues, and issues related to sleep.

Thanks, DJLunacy. This is frustrating as hell, I know. I'm taking my Mac Pro and the Duet 2 into a specialist next week. If I discover anything or if the issue miraculously gets resolved, I'll let you know.

In the meantime I'll direct Apogee's tech support to this forum post in the hopes that they can glean something from my information and your information regarding the Duet drop-outs.

It appears that an update (v2.5) came out that I didn’t know about...

For 10.14 support from the sound of it. I tried the interface on my desktop and MacBook (running 10.14) and same results and crashes.
