I have a Lenovo y700 laptop.

In my audio research I found these two options.
VoodooHDA is easier to install than AppleHDA, but also has less compatibility.
With VoodooHDA I've read the mic doesn't work and after installation, the sound quality and volume is less than expected.
AppleHDA requires you know some specifics like the manufacturer and model.
As this document was the most specific Hardware info I found, I opted for VoodooHDA.
I later read that the specific card is "Realtek ALC 235" but cannot confirm it. Can someone tell me?
I also don't know how to do that. Other than opening up the laptop and online documentation, is there any software or method to obtain such info?

Any other differences between Apple and Voodoo for HDA? Are both still supported?

Get an audio codec dump from Linux, then you'll know for sure what the codec is.

I can confirm that I have "Realtek ALC233" sound card. Thank you RehabMan.

Any other differences between AppleHDA and VoodooHDA I didn't listed?

VoodooHDA is easy to install, but have many problems. But, AppleHDA is not hard to install. Just use AppleHDA Patcher, config your plist and install the kext (or patch DDST, which every method you prefer)

I was not aware of the patcher, but seems more steps. The kext/plist option its possible, but more work and I think that's when you need to know the manufacturer and model. DSDT/SSDT patch is even more harder.
All is easy knowing what to do. So, yes, AppleHDA is a bit harder to install but more stable than VoodooHDA.

I saw a handful of methods, tried the Clover AppleHDA one but no luck. I then saw the recommended method was trough DSDT/SSDT patching.

I'll try that method in a few days. Then I'll post updates.

install applealc.kext + lilu.kext try to use layout 3 in config.plist or editing your dsdt: fix layout and fix irq...

you must have original appleHDA kext.... remove all injectors like voodoohda cloverhda.....
